Last year I started writing collection four. Then, the book completely subsumed and dominated my creativity. Everything went into that. The intimate urge of creativity was satisfied, in fact constantly satiated by a thousand words here in a pub, a few thousand more there in a cafe, over the course of February to August. By now the thing stands at 107,000 plus and a final section of plays amounts to something like 3,000. A beautiful experience to go through. never mind if its rubbish - I loved doing it.
A few songs remain from last year, a year old now. So little a sense of time in my creative head-space. Ideas ferment over years. Literally. The fourth album has no identity yet, merely a few embroyic songs such as these two.
This wondeful film shows how poor Autistic children benefit from music!! Poor things...
Henry is based on the book a Mother wrote about her Autistic son, Henry. At once point she found herself lying there in a pool of aspirins, having failed to take the lot. Neurotypical she was, she could not handle having a low-functioning child. She told her partner that she wanted not only to separate but for him to take Henry too...BECAUSE HE DOES NOT KNOW WHAT LOVE IS, AND HE DOESN'T EVEN KNOW I EXIST. Clearly not someone who was embracing cold, hard Neurodiversity in it's rawest and most clearly-defined form.
Many issues arose for me out of this basic description of the womans experience, and I need to find it in the comprehensive Nas library in head office. Broadmoor blues, speaks for itself. At the far end of the high-functioners antisocial behaviour spectrum, we find about 60 of us inside the big house in the field, with the rectangular exercise yard. I was shown the place once back in 1987. From a distance... I met Michael Fagan and I think he was actually held there for a short bit, which would account for how he got to chat to his neighbour, one Dennis Nielson. I don't recall Fagan mentioning whether Dennis enquired after his sexuality...
My friend Ian Baker heard the wonderful, shrill lead voice on that song and said, having not played synths with me for 25 years upto that day, IF EVER THERE WAS A SOUND THAT IS YOU, THAT IS IT. Very good to be reunited with him again.
More to come folks...x
